Description

Counselor Brad Hambrick outlines a 9-step process for finding hope and relief amid the struggles associated with depression and anxiety.

The persistent presence of depression or anxiety can make us want to give up. We begin to wonder, “What’s the use?” The slow fade of hope and heavy weight of dark emotions make our suffering more intense. In a broken world, it’s impossible to completely eradicate depression and anxiety, but we can have hope and find meaning amid our struggle. This hope becomes more tangible with a concrete plan and support from friends.

Depression and Anxiety is a step-by-step, biblically rooted plan that can be used as a personal study, with a counselor, or in a group. Participants will learn to bring their hardships to God, steward their body well, and pursuing a meaningful life even when they feel depressed or anxious. Hambrick emphasizes the importance of understanding the interplay between suffering and sin and provides practical tools to address emotional struggles while encouraging spiritual growth.

  • 9-step model helps participants understand the struggles that accompany depression and anxiety and gives actionable strategies for overcoming with the hope of the gospel.
  • In-depth resource for churches and individuals to use for support groups to address depression and anxiety in a faith-filled and healing way.
  • A resource in the Church-Based Counseling series, built on the G4 model of subject-specific, lay-led counseling groups, designed to help churches create sustainable lay counseling ministries.
Brad Hambrick, ThM, EdD, serves as the Pastor of Counseling at The Summit Church in Durham, NC. He also serves as Assistant Professor of Biblical Counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, a council member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, and has authored several books, including Making Sense of Forgiveness, Angry with God, and The Church-Based Counseling series, and served as general editor for the Becoming a Church that Cares Well for the Abused curriculum.

Endorsements

“This book will be a guide that breathes a bit of life into you and gives you a small step, right now, that will make a noticeable difference. The hardest part will be saying yes to a group of like-minded brothers and sisters who know something of your struggle. Leave this book on your kitchen table with your Bible, for easy access.”
Edward T. Welch, CCEF Faculty; author of Depression: Looking Up from the Stubborn Darkness

Depression and Anxiety: 9 Steps Toward Hope and Peace is theologically rich with practical application of God’s truths to combat the everyday struggles of people who suffer from depression-anxiety. It’s refreshing how the material easily lends itself to in-depth discussions and biblical solutions to Satan’s attacks. Theologically sound with practical application is a winner every time. Lives are being changed with this material.”
Grayson L. Osteen, Lay Leader; MA in Biblical Counseling, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

“I have used this material with women for years, before it became the book it is today, and they have felt heard and seen, cared for and guided toward God in ways that have helped them navigate deep emotional experiences with hope. Brad is gifted at looking at a particular struggle from all sides in a way that is thoughtful to the experience of the struggler (both sinner and sufferer) and thoughtful of the wisdom of God.”

Betty-Anne Van Rees, Biblical counselor; council board member, Biblical Counseling Coalition; board member, Canadian Biblical Counseling Coalition
