When the difficulties of life suggest that evil and chaos reign, we need to see that God occupies the throne in heaven and rules this world. Revelation: Hope in the Darkness by Scotty Smith reminds us that in troubled times our hope is in our champion Savior who is with us and will one day make all things right.

This fourteen-week study in the Gospel-Centered Life in the Bible series provides in-depth lessons for one-on-one discipleship, small group, or large group settings. In this guide, author Scotty Smith give us a unique perspective on the end times that maps onto modern-day issues and problems. There is a battle raging against Jesus and his people, but be assured: Jesus wins. Though the world’s kingdoms entice and persecute us, the gospel still advances. Endorsements

“Over twenty years ago Scotty’s Unveiled Hope had a significant impact on my life and ministry. I now heartily endorse its refreshing updated presentation in the amazingly useful study guide, Revelation: Hope in the Darkness. It is clear, concise, gospel-focused, accessible, and a great tool for Christians seeking to understand and find real, substantive hope in this final book of the Bible. The excellent pedagogical approach for small group study follows the biblical text with an insightful article and useful heart-focused exercises leading to group discussion and prayer. Scotty’s perspective transcends millennial preferences in a respectful and unifying way that calls believers to engage the world courageously rather than fearfully escape it.”
Mark Dalbey, President, Covenant Theological Seminary, St Louis, MO

“Scotty and I have been walking together as brothers and friends for over thirty years. Our friendship has been forged by the journey into our brokenness and growing in a deeper understanding and experience of the riches of the gospel. Scotty’s sermons on the book of Revelation, and now this new study guide, Revelation: Hope in the Darkness, capture so many of the freeing and transforming things we have learned together, shaping his writing and influencing many of my songs.”
Steven Curtis Chapman, Artist; author; cofounder of Show Hope

"What I love most about Scotty is the way he helps me see Jesus more clearly and love him more deeply. He does this and more in this study of Revelation. In an uncertain time, and through an often difficult and confusing book, he masterfully shows how Revelation, like all of Scripture, is ultimately about the grace and glory of Jesus. I heartily recommend it to you!"
Sammy Rhodes, RUF Campus Minister; author of Beloved and Broken

“Scotty Smith walks us through the book of Revelation, helping us to see the unassailable hope we have in the Lamb who wins. This study guide is invaluable in guarding the reader against common pitfalls and steering them in the direction of resting and delighting in the finished work of Christ. Its questions and exercises will enable groups to apply the truths of this wonderful book deeply into their lives.”
Ralph Cunnington, Pastor, City Church, Manchester, England

Revelation: Hope in the Darkness by Scotty Smith combines the heart of a pastor, the biblical knowledge of a seminary professor, and the imagination of an artist to guide you and your group through one of the most fascinating but often misunderstood books of the Bible. The teaching content is inspiring, the tone is gracious, the format easy to use, and the questions stir up a deeper longing to get to know Jesus better.”
Jim Thomas, Lead Pastor, The Village Chapel, Nashville, TN

"Nothing is more vital to our intimacy with Christ than spending time with him in his Word. But a lot of Bible studies stop short and only deal with concepts and ideas and never really speak to our hearts. That's why I'm so excited about this series. Each author writes about the unique gospel insights he or she has gained from Scripture and has created a small group study that will help people actually encounter Christ and be changed by the power of his grace. God has used this material powerfully in my life, marriage, and ministry, and that is my prayer for you as well."
Bob Osborne, Executive Director, Serge

    Revelation

Posted by Bethany Oleyniczak on 08 25 2020

“This book of overwhelming sights, nearly-audible sounds, and rich symbols is not just meant to bring eternal encouragement and liberating perspective in the final days before the coming of Jesus, nor is it just for the first-century church seeking to deal with the violent persecution of the Roman world. Rather, I have come to rejoice in the present hope offered to Christians of every generation by this timely and timeless book. Followers of the Lamb everywhere, and in all periods of church history, face struggles, fears, and heartaches similar to those of the first readers of Revelation. The setting and the circumstances vary, but spiritual warfare goes on wherever the people of God live. It is to the whole people of God that this book of hope is sent.” Revelation is such an interesting book to study. No matter how many times that I read it, I always gain new insight and have additional questions. Revelation: Hope in the Darkness by: Scotty Smith, is a great study to use with a small group to dive into the book of Revelation. This study includes 14 lessons, as well as leader’s notes. Each lesson has a big idea (main idea of the lesson), and a passage from Titus to read and discuss. There are reflection questions to go along with the passage. The questions are meant to create a conversation, not necessarily correct answers. After that, there is an article written by the author of the book. The articles are the teaching/lesson for the selected scripture. Finally, the lesson ends with a wrap-up and prayer. Each lesson takes about an hour to complete, give or take depending on the size of your group. Some examples of the discussion questions included in this book are: Revelation is thought of as a book about the future, but what do you find most encouraging about the things chapter 1 says Jesus has already done for us in the past? What’s encouraging about who he is for us today, in the present? Externally, the church in Smyrna appears to be doing the worst: it is suffering much persecution and poverty. Yet it is the only church in this chapter not to receive any rebuke. What might this suggest about the Christian life, or about how Jesus sees his people? What kinds of concerns might pastors of persecuted churches have for you or for your church? How ready would you be to listen to those concerns? The new song in verses 9 and 10 is a song that spells out the gospel. What elements make up this gospel story? Why is each element critical if the gospel is to be good news to you? What effect does your awareness of the full picture of salvation have on your commitment and confidence to go into the world to love others? I would recommend this study for a small group to go through either at church, or a group of friends! I received a copy of the book from the publisher, New Growth Press, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
