I love how there is given extras in the back of the book if you want to go deeper in your devotional time. The illustrations are so beautiful as well. Who is Jesus? is a beautifully illustrated family devotional book that would be perfect for the the Season of Lent. The promise of salvation that is woven throughout scripture is highlighted in each daily reading. Additionally, each reading is followed by a robust number of questions that are outstanding for family discussion as well as key scriptures from both the Old Testament and the New Testament. One of the most important questions is WHO IS JESUS? Kate Hox has written 40 devotions which include a key verse, Bible passages for reference, and reflection questions. The devotions are divided equally between the Old Testament and the New Testament. In the introduction shows how the book can be used for Lent and Easter but these well-written devotions can be used at any point throughout the year. Joe Hox has added beautiful illustrations to each devotion. I loved the writing in these devotions and how each one shows a different aspect of Jesus Christ. For example, Day 25 is called “Jesus the Cleanser” and tells the story of Jesus making a whip and using it to drive out the money changers from the temple. “Imagine the surprise, the yelling of angry sellers, the mooing of the cattle, and the bleating of the sheep. ‘Get these out of here!’ he said, ‘Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!’ (John 2:16)” (Page 98) I highly recommend WHO IS JESUS?
Exciting and Insightful With bold illustrations, this book will help get your kids curious about discovering who Jesus is and what he came to do. By opening with Jesus Is the Firstborn Over All Creation, the book shares Colossians 1:15–17 with a short devotion and reflection questions. The rest of the book follows this pattern, and it is exciting and insightful. What I most appreciated were the theological truths that your kids will uncover. Day 28 shows that Jesus is the Light of the World. While John 8:12 is the main text, the book recalls the four giant pillars in the temple, with four branches that came out like a lampstand. By recounting Jesus’ interactions with the Jews, the book brilliantly shows how Jesus fulfills The Feast of Tabernacles. Christ Throughout the Bible The illustrations by Joe Hox will capture the imagination of your children. And the chapters by Kate Hox draw your attention to different allusions and pictures of Christ throughout the Bible: Jesus Is the Ark and the Door, Jesus Is the Passover Lamb, and Jesus Is the Rock Moses Struck are some of my favorites. This book is perfect for family devotions, as answers to reflection questions and suggested songs are included at the back of the book. In fact, the reflection questions will prompt you to further study, allowing you to go deeper into God’s Word. But I can easily see this being used in Sunday School, discipleship, or for simply enjoyable devotional reading. Seeing and Meeting Jesus The book ends by revealing that Jesus is the Bridegroom, with Revelation 19:7 as the key verse. The wedding feast is the perfect way to celebrate all that was learned before in the book while also looking forward to seeing Jesus face-to-face. This book will help your children meet him now.

A beautiful compilation of who Jesus is and revealing the thread of Jesus throughout the entire Bible story.
I have been curious about how to invite families to be more involved in celebrating Easter. Without reinventing the wheel, I wanted something that a family of multiple age children could easily use. WE have been reading a Christmas advent book for years but have never had something valuable to use for Easter. I feel like Kate Hox read my mind. The illustrations by Joe Hox are both engaging and appropriate for all ages. I am glad there are different levels of questions so all members can participate. I plan to stock up and send to relatives as well as make it available to the parents of the kids in our ministry.
This book is amazing. It is so well written and relevant for Lent. The pictures and writing are awesome. Great for the whole family and not just for kids.
Kate Hox’s Who is Jesus is a 40-lesson journey through the Bible on a mission to discover Jesus more fully and deeply. Each lesson is referred to as a “day” and includes a key verse, Bible passage, reflection, questions, and even song suggestions (at the end of the book). There is one illustration per segment that accompanies 1 1/2 – 2 pages of text. The short reads are interesting and informational, and they walk through various books of the Bible with both well-known and lesser-known stories, facts, and tidbits. The topics progress through the Old Testament, beginning with Genesis, and into the New Testament. The questions for most segments are thought-provoking and may require more in-depth study or review, like a true Bible study. As one example, Day 23’s reflection questions include: Read Isaiah 42:1. How does this story fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy? And another: Why is it so important that Jesus was sinless? See 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Hebrews 4:15. There isn’t an age range specified on Amazon for this book, but it isn’t your typical “picture book” as the subtitle might imply. This book is a teaching tool and I would recommend it for ages 7 and up to get the most benefit. There is so much content included that children would benefit from repeating these lessons as they grow and mature. The illustrations represent the key topics. Many have a dark look and feel. They definitely weren’t what I expected from the light and bright cover image, but the graphic novel style appeals to the target audience. The lessons are categorized as “days”, but the book doesn’t have to be used as a one-a-day. Who is Jesus would make a great family activity for any time of the year, but would make a particularly good Lenten season or Christmas activity.
