Description

It's easy to lose heart in a world where many things can and do go wrong. Life is difficult, and there are struggles within and without, but we can take heart the Lord is with us. He hears our cries for mercy. He knows our every need. He guides us, helps us, and strengthens us with his mighty right arm. Journey through a year with David Powlison, learning to "take heart" by meditating on his favorite Scripture passages, hymns, and biblical themes, exploring the ways God meets us with daily grace right where we live.

Drawn from David Powlison's many decades of writing, teaching, and speaking, Take Heart is a yearlong devotional journey into the process of biblical change, where truth becomes clearer and our ears hear and our eyes see what God tells us about himself.

Learn to go to God for the help you need and hold fast to the daily mercy and grace he offers. And be reminded the promises of God are true and that the resurrection of Jesus guarantees that no matter what you may be facing, you can live in real hope.

David Powlison, MDiv, PhD, (1949–2019) was a teacher, counselor, and the executive director of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation (CCEF). They cover every human topic from fear to dependency to doubt, without ever slouching into either sentimentality or moralism. Each of them is gospel-driven. I plan to start my day with them, and I hope you will too."
William Edgar, Professor of Apologetics, Westminster Theological Seminary

This is my favorite devotional. I have gone through it twice and plan to go through it again. I sm a lay biblical counselor and I refer often to this devotional to help me communicate valuable truth from Scripture. It is thought-provoking, convicting and comforting. David Powlison helps me to see things very clearly from a biblical perspective. The Lord has used this devotional to bless me greatly. I highly recommend it!

    High Quality

I knew the content would be excellent (and it is) but I was pleasantly surprised by the material quality of the hardcover book itself. This is a book you could pass down for generations, it's that well constructed. Very happy.

    Take Heart

As I have purchased this to be my daily devotion reading for 2024, my review is limited, at this point. I read the first day and scanned several days throughout the year upon purchasing it. Not only am I excited to read the words and thoughts of David Powlison, but the focus on digging deeper into my views of my Lord and my Savior will be an exciting journey through the year. As David P demonstrated years of faithful teaching, preaching, and writing, I hope that some of his faithfulness 'rubs' off on me. God bless his wife and the other editors who worked to assemble this devotion. May many be blessed.

    Excellent Devotional

    Posted by Gwebb on 03 01 2023

This is not your normal feel-good devotional; it is so much deeper and meditative. The heart is directly in the crosshairs and is impacted every single day. Some days you are glorifying God for all He has magnificently done for you. Other days you are repenting because of the truth that has exposed your heart. Daily the truth from the Word of God that has been communicated impacts you at the core of your being. Many days I’ve read and reread the short amazingly constructed and poignant truths from scripture so that I can mine every pure gold nugget. After I had read just a few of the days, I knew this would be one of those books that needed to be read and reread. I bought a book for everyone in my immediate family. I wanted them to be blessed and challenged to walk closer to Jesus. It’s almost as if I was back in a class that Dr. Powlison was teaching. I’m so pleased and blessed this devotional was published, many many will benefit.

Take Heart is a devotional which includes a scripture passage and brief devotional for each day of of the year. Filled with encouragement and a call to grow closer to God through fully relying on his sovereignty, this devotional provides powerful insights. While this complimentary book was provided for review by New Growth Press, no other compensation was given. All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

Strengthen your relationship with God with 365 devotions

Posted by Shirley Alarie on 10 20 2022

Many Jesus-seekers want to know how to deepen their relationship with God. Well, David Powlison’s Take Heart is a great starting point! If a reader absorbs these one-page prompts and uses them to facilitate internal reflection, personal challenges, and intentional dialogue with God, the result will be a deeper faith. The 365 daily prompts cover many lesser-known verses, giving the reader a broader exposure to Scripture than they might get otherwise. The selected Scriptures cover the beauty of the Psalms, the truth of the Gospels, and a mixture of Old and New Testament verses. All of the Scripture and the reflective, instructive messages point us to a deeper relationship that a reader of this book would be seeking. Take Heart – Daily Devotions to Deepen Your Faith is a posthumous publication of David Powlison’s many years of Christian writing and teaching. His wife participated on the team who brought Mr. Powlison’s words to a new life in these devotions. Who would benefit from this book: Anyone who enjoys devotionals that take just a few minutes a day to read and those who are looking to deepen their relationship with God would enjoy this book. Take Heart would also make a nice gift for a new believer or someone who is struggling with faith or facing a current struggle. How this book affected me: This is my kind of book! It helps the reader focus on drawing nearer to God by using Scripture and a short reading. The topics vary and cover a lot of ground that will apply to most people in many circumstances. The commentary is thought-provoking, challenging, and inspiring. I received this book with no obligation for a positive review.
