“The Seed” is an interesting read by Erik Guzman and one that really made me think a lot throughout the book. Guzman has been compared to C.S. Lewis as far as the writing style and type of story and I completely agree. I was not sure what to expect with this book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was
Guzman takes liberties to create an interesting story without “theological language or Christian terms”, though for any Christian familiar with the Biblical narrative, the story is easily mapped out. I did appreciate the vivid parallels that Guzman was able to convey between a society (not unlike ours) that works to wall ourselves off and thinks we are better than we are. To be honest though, I didn’t enjoy this like I thought I would. It’s an allegorical journey but not a story in the way Lord of the Rings is allegorical. Go into it realizing this and you may enjoy it if that type of book appeals to you.
I really wish the book had started at a different point because it just didn’t make sense to me. I tend to know fairly quickly whether or not I’m going to like a book. With this one I wasn’t sure what to think. I really think that some are going to be turned off with the way it starts off because I found it confusing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I can see myself reading this again and even reading it to my children once they get a bit older. It has a beautiful message, well flushed out characters, and the world building is complex (sometimes a little too complex, but still well done).
The Seed is the retelling of the creation story in the bible and it is a very neat and unique retelling. This book really leaves you thinking about redemption and our own struggles.
The Seed was a different book for me. Actually, it was more of an experience than a simple reading of a book. Guzman deftly weaves a tale that portrays God’s plan of redemption through characters that jump right off the page. Void of the typical “church” words and sometimes confusing theological terms, Guzman is able to present the Gospel. What a gift he has shared with readers!
A profound look at an old tale in a new light. A remarkable journey filled with truth, darkness, fear, and hope. A must read for those interested in theology and hearing God’s word in another light.
I had not read much fantasy before reading The Seed. It was a great book to start with in the genre. Everything was easy to picture and the story was beautiful
Initially it was difficult for me to get into this book. The very beginning (first chapter or two) don’t explain much and leave readers guessing what they’re reading. However, it gets much better as the book goes on. I love books that can take a story and turn it into a parallel of Biblical facts. This is why I feel like this book is much like something from C.S. Lewis. He mixes fantasy with Biblical truths.
This book will keep you interested for the whole book until the last page. Hope that this author keeps writing. I cannot wait to read his next book.
