Endorsements

"Long Story Short is the best material for family devotions I've ever seen. If you're looking for something careful, creative, and Christ-centered without being corny, confusing, or condescending, look no further. Pastors would be wise to buy this book by the boxful and get a copy into the hands of each family in their church."
Justin Taylor, Blogger at The Gospel Coalition; managing editor of the ESV Study Bible

"This is simply an outstanding book, and Christian families need it right now. I have never seen a devotional book that is so well suited to family devotions and to children, even as it is faithful in relating biblical truth. This book will help any Christian parent lead family devotions that will be memorable, faithful, and practical for Christian living. I'll admit this too, parents will find that they love the stories, illustrations, and learning suggestions along with their children. Marty Machowski has written a wonderful book."
R. Albert Mohler Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

"I love the simplicity and practicality of Long Story Short. Marty Machowski gives parents a valuable resource to make disciples in our homes by highlighting the gospel story and the Hero of Scripture. I plan to strongly encourage the use of this book throughout our entire network of churches."
Scott Thomas, Pastor of Pastoral Development at The Journey Church

"In Long Story Short, Marty Machowski provides what my wife and I needed when we were struggling to find good tools to disciple our young children. We got by, but this resource would have helped us so much. I envy the parents who will have it available to them. It is simple, interactive, and faithful to Scripture. It avoids the pitfalls of moralism that is prevalent in much of the children's Bible literature today. Marty insists that you and your children meet Jesus and see the gospel of grace in every story. I can't recommend this resource enough."
Timothy S. Lane, Former Executive Director, Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation; coauthor of How People Change and Relationships: A Mess Worth Making

    Great for ten year old!

Posted by Kim Fultzon on 04 07 2016

My daughter is 10 yrs old and this is a great devotional for us while we wait in the car at her bus stop each morning. I let her read the scripture, I'll ask a few questions, and we pray together before she gets on the bus.

Draws you and your children closer to God!

Posted by Happy Mom on 04 01 2016

This is beautifully crafted to draw you and your children closer to God through the readings of the Bible. Through simple lessons that the author connects to daily life today, we find the teachings of Jesus in everyday life as well as predicted throughout the Old Testament. I have learned a great deal from this study with my family and look forward to using the New Testament version when we complete this book.

    Great little devotional!

Posted by Kristin Buuson on 03 31 2016

We are just finishing week 4 of this devotional and just love it! I have a 4, 3, & almost 1 year old. Some things are a little over the older ones heads, but I'm able to explain in a way that they can understand. My 3 year old has a difficult time sitting still to begin with, but my 4 year old is really retaining what he has learned from day to day. And, he's asking lots of questions. I really like how there is a basic lesson that you work through for the week, and it shows how events in the old testament point straight to Jesus. Each lesson takes about 10 minutes, so we're able to do it at breakfast, and is short enough that they don't lose focus. I would highly recommend this for all ages, as it's clarified a few things for me.

Brings the Old Testament to life for kids and adults

    Posted by Hanna on 03 30 2016

You can easily modify the lessons to meet the ages of your children. I do this study with my 2 1/2 year old and am able to use the tools they give to make it interesting for her. It will also be great as she gets older and I truly feel that it has no age limit. It is Gospel centered and very well put together. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a bible stidy that is not too complicated but still full of truth and meat.

    Great book for family devotionals

    Posted by Daniel R. on 03 29 2016

Really liked how the chapters are short enough to keep attention of the young ones but detailed enough to be a challenging reflection on Gods Word

Covers a lot of Scripture with good theology and examples.

Posted by Kay Thompson on 03 29 2016

My sons and I have been working our way through this Old Testament family worship book for a couple of years. It covers so much of scripture with good theology and examples that children understand. I have already purchased its sequel (Old Story New) to begin when we finish in a few weeks.
