You Are Satisfied: Devotions for Your Longing Heart

You Are Satisfied is a thoughtful devotional about learning to find our satisfaction in God rather than in circumstances, possessions, or the things we think will make us happy. There were quite a few things in it that I appreciated and found myself reflecting on. One of the things that stood out to me was the emphasis on meditation. The reminder that we can read Scripture without really stopping to think about it resonated with me. I appreciated the idea that if we want to delight in God's Word, we need to spend time actually dwelling on it. The book repeatedly brings us back to God's character, His love, His faithfulness, and the importance of remembering what He has already done, especially when we are walking through a dry or difficult season. I also particularly appreciated the distinction between lament and grumbling. We are certainly encouraged in Scripture to bring our pain, frustrations, and longings to God, but there is a difference between honestly grieving before Him and accusing Him. That was a helpful distinction, and one I found myself thinking about. The section on suffering was another highlight for me. Looking at the cross as the ultimate example of God bringing astonishing good out of something that appeared completely senseless and horrific is a powerful encouragement. We cannot always understand what God is doing in our own suffering, but we can look at what He has already done through Christ and trust His character. I also appreciated the discussion of Romans 5:8 and the reminder that Christ loved us while we were still sinners. We don't have to make ourselves worthy of God's love before we can receive it. That is such a precious truth, and the book expressed it in a particularly accessible way. However, there were also some things that I found difficult. Most significantly, I did not agree with the statement that everyone who trusts in Jesus is part of the family of Israel and that the promises given to Abraham therefore simply apply to us in this way. This is an area where I would have liked considerably more theological care. There were a few other places where I felt the application went further than the biblical text itself. Romans 8:32, for example, is used to make some very broad statements about God meeting all our needs and withholding no good thing from us. While I certainly believe in God's generous and faithful provision, I thought some of these statements needed more qualification and attention to the context of the passage. So, while I didn't agree with everything in You Are Satisfied, I did find plenty here that was encouraging and worth pondering. I especially appreciated its call to slow down with Scripture, delight in God Himself, remember His faithfulness, and pursue godliness through knowing Him rather than looking for quick spiritual fixes. A mixed reading for me—some genuinely beautiful and helpful reminders, alongside theological points that I couldn't quite overlook.

I enjoyed this study! While not a "deep" study, it was very easy to go deeper by digging into the different Scriptures that Joanna listed. This is an 8-week study, with 5 weekly lessons. Each lesson has a scripture to read, a "devotional" type reading/teaching, and three questions to help you walk through it. The questions weren't "hard" but if you actually take the time to consider them, can really help bring about growth and understanding as well as application of what you just studied. Every point made was rooted in scripture and the consistent focus was on God and Jesus - not us, which I love! Unlike many Bible studies that seem to be geared towards moms, this one truly would be wonderful for any woman, regardless of age or stage.

You Are Satisfied is a thoughtful, Scripture-centered devotional for women who are struggling with discontentment, disappointment, or comparison. Over the course of 8 weeks, Joanna Kimble faithfully points readers back to God’s Word, showing that true satisfaction is not found in changing circumstances, but in Christ Himself. It’s simple and easy to follow, yet rich and deeply encouraging. I appreciate that it doesn’t stay surface-level—it helps you actually understand and apply what it means to find contentment in the Lord. I’m very selective with devotionals, and this is one I would gladly reread and highly recommend.

. You Are Satisfied uses simple comparisons and I like that. The author takes everyday things and connects them to uplifting spiritual lessons and our deep desires. Her gentle style and friendly voice make the book easy to read. Each week, the devotional leads you with a main Bible verse, a passage for deeper diving, and thoughtful questions to help you reflect. I appreciate the lined areas to write down ideas and answers.
