Because child abuse occurs even in faith-based communities, the Safeguards Homeschool Curriculum for elementary-aged students teaches children how to assess and respond to potentially unsafe situations and people.
This three-unit digital curriculum teaches elementary grades abuse awareness and prevention from a biblical worldview, based on the principles in the book Safeguards, by family counselor Julie Lowe. Written by Lowe, Lynne Little, and Angela Ruiz, all with extensive experience in counseling, education, and curriculum formation, the curriculum emphasizes scriptural truth as the foundation for developing the wisdom and discernment needed by children to be safe.
The curriculum is designed for ages 7 through 11 (grades 2 through 5). It includes three units from the Safeguards School Curriculum—Discernment (Unit 1), Evaluation and Wisdom (Unit 2), and the Courage to Say No (Unit 3), employing stories, puppets, role plays, crafts, and a variety of hands-on activities.

It is easy to follow and well laid out with age-appropriate activities and learning objectives. The parents’ page is excellent for helping parents continue learning at home. This curriculum is essential for our day.”

“In my judgment, few needs are more urgent in this generation than training in biblical discernment. At the same time, few priorities are more vital than the safety of God’s children. I’m encouraged to see a resource that thoughtfully addresses both, while also honoring the deeply Christian principle of parental authority. May God bless this work for the good of his people.”
Shane Arnold, PhD, MDiv, Head of School, Christ’s Legacy Academy
“Grounded in biblical principles, Safeguards School Curriculum educates children on the fundamentals of unsafe behaviors and situations. This text not only instills godly discernment and healthy boundaries within students, but equips them to identify, prevent, and report abuse—knowledge every child should acquire. This curriculum is beyond essential and should be utilized in every Christian school and homeschool environment.”
Chris Rush, PhD, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice & Criminology, East Tennessee State University; author of Sexual Abuse Within the Church: Assessment, Intervention, and Prevention
“As a Christian school educator for over two decades, I can say that a rich resource to equip students with safety skills is long overdue. But the wait is now over. This curriculum is not only theologically and biblically grounded—it’s also academically organized, pedagogically engaging, and winsomly creative. I am thrilled that there is now an exceptional resource for schools to engage these critical topics.”
