Follow the adventures of the animals that could have been witnesses to the most epic events of biblical history and gather the prophetic hints of the redemption to come!
Oxen brothers Otto and Oscar stand trapped and terrified between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's approaching army along with all of Israel. Yes, God has brought them this far out of the misery of Egypt, but escape now seems impossible! When Moses shouts, "Fear not. Stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord," everyone gasps as the cloud of the Lord billows up and blocks the enemy from advancing. Then the wind begins to blow. Will the oxen and the rest of Israel be able to outrun the enemy?
The Prophecy and the Hope by bestselling author Marty Machowski follows the adventures of the animals who could have witnessed the events of the Old Testament, from the Exodus onward. Join oxen at the Red Sea, mountain goats at Mount Sinai, Rahab's pets in Jericho, horses watching as David faced Goliath, the Queen of Sheba's camels, ravens with Elijah, and mice in Isaiah's house.
“As Marty creatively walks us through the Old Testament, he wonderfully points to Christ. As the title of this series is Redemption Tales, it is fitting that the predominant theme woven throughout each story is Jesus Christ, the coming Redeemer. The Prophecy and the Hope stays on point, directing our hearts and our children’s hearts to the Son.”
Bud Burk, Pastor for Children and Family Discipleship, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, MN
"This isn’t just a book that aims to teach kids facts in an engaging way. They will learn facts about the Exodus, no doubt, but Machowski aims for transformation. The Prophecy and the Hope invites kids to consider the connections of Israelites’ tremendous deliverance from slavery to our deliverance from sin through Jesus, the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world."
Gloria Furman, author of Missional Motherhood and Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full
“Marty has written some amazing true adventure stories from the eyes of the animals that could have been there. God’s Word contains some of the greatest stories ever told, so it’s amazing to see someone as skilled as Marty Machowski give these biblical accounts such a wonderfully fresh perspective. Coupling the stories with his study questions makes this a resource that’s not only going to engage the families who use it, but equip them too.”
Adam Griffin, Lead Pastor, Eastside Community Church, Dallas, TX; podcast host, The Family Discipleship Podcast; author of several books and resources for families
“The first two books in the Redemption Tales series captivate young (and older) minds while recounting significant stories from the Old Testament. All three of my children asked for ‘just one more chapter’ again and again! The questions at the end really turned reading these books into incredible discipleship time!”
Megan Jenkins, Owner, His Kids Company
“What a creative way to engage the imagination and stir the interest of children in telling key narratives from the Old Testament. We parents and grandparents can find such help in applying these stories in a Christ-focused way by tapping into the included questions and answers.”
Larry E. McCall, Author of Grandparenting with Grace: Living the Gospel with the Next Generation
“With his trademark creativity, a Bible teacher's deft touch, and a heart that beats for the next generation, Marty has crafted another wonderful series story that is sure to delight young readers and sow seeds of eternity in their hearts.”
Joshua Cooley, New York Times bestselling author of I Can't Believe My Eyes!, the Heroes of the Bible Devotional, and more

From the parting of the Red Sea to Isaiah's prophecy of the Promised One, explore seven Old Testament stories told through the eyes of animals. I'm amazed at the conversations each chapter sparks from the details of the Bible story and flipping to the referenced Scripture, my girls are engaged. They love Daniel the dove and get excited every time he appears. My eldest's favorite chapter was David and Goliath but my middle loved the story of Elijah. Machowski does an excellent job pointing to Christ with each story. The perspective is creative but it holds true to Scripture. I received a copy from the publisher. The above are my thoughts and opinions.
The Prophecy and the Hope covers select stories from the crossing of the Red Sea to Isaiah’s prophecies about the coming Messiah. Marty Machowski is so gifted at making theology and Bible stories accessible to kids without watering them down! This series is no exception. The stories are told from the perspective of the animals which made the chapters extra fun and engaging and threw a little humor into the mix, all while maintaining the biblical facts and message. There’s a dove named Daniel that is in every chapter who always shows up to explain the story to the animals and answer their questions. These chapter books are really sweet and I appreciated how what was added to the stories was just the plot with the animals while the biblical accounts remained very true to the Bible. In the back of the book, each chapter has corresponding questions and Bible references to be explored by families. My girls loved these and always asked for me to keep reading. I used these books as part of our morning basket time during homeschooling! They’d also be great to include in family devotions or to give to your independent readers. Definitely recommend grabbing this series (they would be perfect to stick in an Easter basket)!

“The Prophecy and the Hope” picks up right where book one left off (facing the Red Sea with the Egyptians behind them). This series retells bible stories from the perspectives of animals who could have been eyewitnesses at the time. The talking animals change in each chapter, yet one dove remains throughout appearing to the others and helping them make sense of what’s happening. It includes bible references at the end of each chapter, a section of study questions and answers at the back of the book, and about 2-4 illustrations per chapter. Here are the stories covered in book two: Ch 1: Crossing The Red Sea Ch. 2: Moses & the 10 Commandments Ch. 3: Rahab & the Spies Ch. 4: David & Goliath Ch. 5: Queen Sheba’s Visit to Solomon (also: the case of the two mothers) Ch. 6: Elijah & the Prophets of Baal (also: Ahab/Jezebel, the widow’s flour & oil) Ch. 7: Isaiah’s Prophecies of the Promised One These books are a delight, giving a fresh perspective on stories you may have read many times, viewing them from a slightly different lens and allowing readers to really imagine what it was like to witness these events unfold.
