Endorsements

"Michael Emlet has written a readable and insightful guide on how to move from the ancient text to our present situation. This book is especially important for counselors, pastors, and seminarians, but all thoughtful Christians will benefit from reading it."
Tremper Longman III, PhD, Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies, Westmont College and Author of Reading the Bible with Heart and Mind

"Are you, like me, unsatisfied with your ability to link passages to problems or people? With poignant insights shaped by years of teaching and counseling, Mike Emlet helps us connect the dots between Scripture and permanent change. If you hunger to apply the Bible to life, or to help other people gain an appetite, then feast on this book!"
Dave Harvey, DMin, Sovereign Grace Ministries and Author of When Sinners Say "I Do"

"In CrossTalk, Mike Emlet is serious about applying all of Scripture to all of life. Mike teaches us how to weave together the story line of Scripture with our own stories. And Mike gets the story right. It is a gospel story. Mike's passion for the immediacy and centrality of the gospel story comes through on every page."
Paul Miller, Author of Love Walked Among Us and A Praying Life

"Many authors can tell you what the Bible is, and how to read it. Many others can offer wisdom to face life's problems. Few can do both. Mike Emlet wonderfully bridges the two worlds. CrossTalk not only gives us numerous examples of applying the Scriptures to daily life, but models how to go about it on our own. This book is a marvelous resource for anyone who wants to know how to navigate the often-troubled waters of personal experience. It is well-suited for lay people and professional ministers alike."
William Edgar, DrThŽol, Professor of Apologetics, Westminster Theological Seminary and author of Truth in All Its Glory

"This is simply the best book about the nature and function of the Bible that I have ever read! It is outstanding in describing the overall narrative of Scripture and in insisting that the individual 'bits' of the Bible are read in the context of that 'big picture.' It is outstanding in applying that same technique to people's lives. It is outstanding in the number of concrete examples he uses to illustrate his points. And it is outstanding most of all because it, like the Bible, clearly points to Jesus. Dr. Emlet has written a superb book, which anyone who wants to understand and apply the Bible really MUST read!"

Excellent guide to using Scripture to minister to people

    Posted by Wendy on 12 09 2019

A very helpful book that takes seriously the claim that the bible contains everything we need for life and salvation. By encouraging the reader to take the bible seriously and properly use it in a redemptive-historical way, as well as working at ways to know and understand people better, Emlet paves the way for those who minister the word to do so in ways that are accurate, sensitive, and truly founded on Christ and his gospel.

    Life and Scripture

This is a very practical book for the use of a Scripture when in one to one ministry. I used some of it lately to train community group leaders in fostering spiritual transformation.

    Theologically Accurate and Practical

Posted by Kristen Schumaker on 05 30 2019

One of my favorite books I have read in a long time. As a seminary student and ministry leader, I struggle to find books that are both theologically rich and practically written. This book accomplishes both and is one my favorite reads in a long time. This is a great book for pastors, students, and lay people.

    Best read in community

Posted by David Pullia, on 05 11 2018

Really good read, can be wordy in places and sometimes gets repetitive. I think it’s best read with another person, discussed and practiced because it’s less of a theoretical book then a handbook and some of he ideas come out better in conversation.

Biblical Counseling Needs More of This Guy

    Posted by A Dittimeier on 04 18 2018

For those who have experienced or know someone who has experienced biblical counseling that is overly legalistic and/or sin-focused, Emlet brings a much more balanced (and biblical) approach. This book is a truly valuable asset for biblical counselors in learning how to address clients as saints, as sufferers, and then as sinners as needed. Love, love, love this book.

    Great read

    Posted by Meagan on 08 15 2017

This is a great, practical book that brings Biblical principles home to a modern and post-modern society, making it easier to apply to a culture in need of spiritual direction. I needed this book for school, so I am glad this was stocked for that purpose, but it is so useful I am sure I will be referring to it again.

    Thought Provoking

This made me think. It's okay to use verses, but it'd benefit all to connect t deeply to a passage.

    Finished for Class

Posted by Erica Gagnon on 02 02 2017

Very helpful and practical guide that seemed overwhelming at first but came together wonderfully in the second half of the book. The questions I was asking as I read were specifically and thoroughly answered in the last chapter. I am encouraged and motivated to use scripture in all its historical-redemptive grandeur in whatever ministry God deems fit to send my way. If for no other reason, I was blessed and benefitted much by Dr. Emlet's insights.
