Description

Nearly 2,000 years ago, a simple wooden cross and an empty tomb served as the setting for the greatest rescue mission in history—the good news of a loving Father going to great lengths to save his broken children. Every year at Easter, with a joyful shout of "Christ is risen!" we declare again the climax of this great story. Although Easter Sunday only happens once a year, the truths behind it are big enough to shape our lives every single day. Starting on Palm Sunday, your family will spend two weeks (fourteen devotions) walking in time with Jesus as he finished the work his Father had given him. Extending your devotional time into the week beyond Easter Sunday will encourage your family to follow the risen Jesus as he calls his disciples on a Spirit-filled mission to spread the good news to all nations. Your family will learn that God calls every Christ follower to that very same task, promising that his power and presence will help us as we go. Each devotion takes just ten-minutes and is suitable for all ages of children. Included are suggestions for hymns to sing and family activities that give you a chance to remember and apply the truth that Christ is risen indeed!

"Our hearts are often like a car out of alignment; when we take our hands off the wheel, it begins to swerve to the right or left. Theologically rich and incredibly practical, this is a fantastic resource for all families!"
Jason Gaston,

"The approach of Easter gives families a distinctive opportunity to focus their devotional time on the purpose and implications of Jesus's atoning work. Scott James provides families with a concise and engaging two-week focus on the mission Jesus accomplished and the mission he is now calling us to for spreading the good news to the nations."

I would like to try this one again in a few years! It was just a bit beyond my kids' comprehension (at 5 and 4).

a great way to focus our minds during the Easter season.

This was our second year doing this devotional as a family. The book begins on Palm Sunday and leads you through holy week, then continues for a week after Easter, focusing on the importance of the resurrection. Each devotional contains a scripture reading, some guiding thoughts, and discussion questions. Some days include a family activity or song, but we did not do any of those. Each reading only takes about 10 minutes, and our family had great discussions in which the children felt comfortable speaking up. The final devotion left us a little confused on the author’s eschatology, but otherwise the book was biblically solid, and a great way to focus our minds during the Easter season.

    I highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed Scott James’ Mission Accomplished: A Two-Week Family Easter Devotional. Mission Accomplished: A Two-Week Family Easter Devotional is designed to be started on Palm Sunday and to finish the week after Easter. Each entry has a Bible reference, a “Think About It” section, a “Talk About it” section, and a “Pray About It” section. Each entry also alternates between a “Sing About It” section with a hymn that corresponds with the devotion or a “Family Activity” to do that corresponds with that particular devotion. I am always on the look out for devotionals that help children celebrate Easter and Christmas and I believe Mission Accomplished: A Two-Week Family Easter Devotional meets that need. I like how Mission Accomplished explains certain aspects of the Easter Story so that everyone can understand what is going on. The book even suggests certain Bible translations to make the Bible reference easy to understand. I like how well the “Think About It” and “Talk About It” sections are intertwined. I also like how the questions in the “Talk About It” section also give guided suggestions on how to answer the questions if the kids get stuck. I loved how it introduces children to traditional hymns that they may not have known about. I think Mission Accomplished: A Two-Week Family Easter Devotional is a good resource to help your family celebrate Easter. I believe that each devotion will help your family keep the meaning of Easter before you and that everyone in the family will learn a lot. I highly recommend this book!

    Excellent, Engaging Resource

Posted by Anonymous Reader on 02 26 2020

This book is simple, engaging, and easy for a family to dive into together. By focusing one week on preparing for Easter, and the other week on celebrating it, it isn't too overwhelming. Just enjoyable and a blessing!
