Don’t Copy the Cobra leads children ages 4–7 not only an exploration of many of God’s fascinating creatures but offers encouragement for making good choices.

When God created the world, he made zebras with a kick strong enough to hurt a lion, gibbons who can yell loud enough to be heard two miles away, and cobras that can spit venom to keep predators away. They bring glory to our God by living this way. But God didn’t mean for humans to kick and yell and spit. He made us special, above all creation, to trust and share, care and obey. We grow in the Father’s love by choosing life his way.

Author Jill Marie Smith uses playful rhymes and fun examples to show while animals bring glory to God by being themselves, children give glory to God by following Jesus and growing in love, kindness, and faith.

  • Encourages children to follow Jesus and grow in love and kindness, rooted in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
  • Filled with fun and silly animal facts that children will love, and includes vibrant, engaging illustrations by Adam Ming.
  • Includes a helpful glossary and parent page to spark deeper conversations about purpose and faith and an animal fact page further explaining the unique characteristics of the animals featured in the story.
