Description

Justin and Lindsey Holcomb tackle the tough question "Where do babies come from?" in a common sense, biblical way.

This common question all too often leaves parents perplexed about what to say and when to say it. When children ask "where do babies come from?," they ask because they are curious about where THEY came from. The question is not about sex.

The Holcombs, along with illustrator Trish Mahoney, help parents start the conversation with their children about reproduction by giving them the basic tools to guide them—including specific biblical content and age-appropriate ways of talking to children at different stages. Instead of leaving this conversation to "experts" or to the culture, they equip parents to answer questions about sex in the right way at the right time.

Drawing from the story of creation and how God made the living world to reproduce, God Made Babies helps children to understand the gift of reproduction in the light of God's goodness and care.

  • From the authors and illustrator of the award-winning God Made All of Me and God Made Me in His Image.
  • Part of the God Made Me Series which equips parents to have important, impactful conversations with their children.
  • Contains a special section for parents and caregivers that provides biblical guidance and offers additional information and resources for conversation.

Endorsements

"A delightful and engaging book that captures the attention of young children who look out into their world and raise questions about the life surrounding them. The authors elegantly attend to the concrete world of their young reader and establish a refreshingly balanced view and foundation that relates faith with life, skillfully and clearly setting the stage for conversations about childbirth. Most importantly, the book creates a springboard for establishing positive and ongoing conversations for parents to speak with their children about sexuality."

    God Made Babies

This is a great book that helps parents to “start the conversation with their children about reproduction by giving them the basic tools to guide them—including specific biblical content and age-appropriate ways of talking to children at different stages.” I couldn’t say it any better. This is a great supplement to the Bible. God’s Word has equipped us as parents to share the Truth about life & reproduction & this book has been a helpful supplement with how to phrase certain answers that will be helpful for toddlers & young children. I love the questions they ask parents at the end to help guide & reflect as you prayerfully seek the Lord’s wisdom & point your little ones to our Creator who has intelligently made us for His Glory & Purpose. Definitely recommend this book to add to your library.

    Great Book

As a mother and a counselor, I’ve always heard that “the talk” needs to be an ongoing conversation rather than a one time talk. I have a two year old who loves babies and all things pregnancy and mama. This book begins to set the foundation for kids to understand where babies come from at a developmental appropriate way. This book is probably targeted towards elementary school aged children, but we feel comfortable letting our toddler read it. The main topic is reproduction- how plants reproduce, animals, from eggs, pregnant, animals, then human development. The book super briefly mentions sperm and egg, but nothing beyond that. Our toddler took away that babies are made “from a little piece of mommy and a little piece of daddy” which we are happy with!

    Great Starting Place for Discussion

    Posted by Laura on 11 10 2022

God Made Babies is a wonderful introductory book from a Christian world viewpoint that is age appropriate for preschool and early elementary-age children. This is the latest addition to the God Made Me Series, and it is another winner. It uses easy to understand text, engaging illustrations, and scriptural truths. Of particular note is the "Things to Consider" section in the back of the book. It provides additional insights and support for parents to engage in meaningful conversations about where babies come from with their children. While this complimentary book was provided for review by New Growth Press, no other compensation was given. All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

Great kids version of how babies are made

    Posted by Wendy on 09 11 2022

A fantastic addition to the God Made Me series, as Justin & Lindsay Holcomb give parents of little ones a head start on the conversation about where babies come from. Like all the books in this series (10 at last count), they are aimed at toddlers and pre-schoolers, and again Trish Mahoney demonstrates her skill with eye-catching and engaging illustrations. What I loved the most was their angle into the topic. It didn’t leap straight to people, but started with God creating the world, plants, animals, and people. Then they break down how reproduction works across the variety of life God has made, starting with flowers, then reptiles and birds, and finally to mammals. Scant but adequate details are given about how a mom and dad both give a small part and they join together in the mom’s body to make a baby. Then details show how the baby grows from the size of a poppy seed to the size of a watermelon, and how it develops over that time. I think they have hit the mark with just the right amount of information for this age group. It’s accurate, with the correct words used (reproduce, sperm, egg, womb, vagina), but not too detailed. This means parents can use it as is, or if it prompts more questions, they have the groundwork laid to give more information. If you read books to little ones, you'll want to add this one to your collection.

Great resource for parents with inquisitive kids!

Posted by May Manlapaz on 09 03 2022

This is a great picture book that discusses how reproduction is God's design -- it's quite comprehensive, even tackling how plants and animals reproduce and how a baby develops in a mother's tummy. It gives just the right amount of accurate, scientific information without going into too much detail. My kids loved seeing how the baby starts from something as small as a seed and then grows into the size of a pineapple! The best thing is that it always points back to how God is the creator of all and reproduction is part of his wise, loving design. I found the Parent's Guide very helpful, too.
