When Kwan Jeong, a brilliant and humble young scientist, arrives in Glideon and joins the Lightgliders, he learns of the danger and power of secrets, and the importance of courage and humility.

Seoul, Korea, 2057

Kwan longs to make a difference and is desperate to protect his family’s legacy. As the son of the Chief Technology Integration Minister, the stakes are high to prove his worth. After achieving prominence for discovering a revolutionary compound for building roads and bridges, Kwan realizes that his compound might be toxic. Should he speak up to protect the environment of his homeland, or follow professional success and recognition? In the back of his mind, he remembers the advice his father once gave him: Sometimes secrets are necessary.

After a restless night of sleep, Kwan finds himself back in the lab—but not his lab. It’s a lab in the mystical world of Glideon. There he joins the Lightgliders who are tasked with helping the Gliddles save their land. While on a quest in the Liminal Caverns with the Gliddles, he finds Dr. Grapethorne’s journal which holds disturbing truths about Glideon, blight, and the mysterious Gliddles. Kwan keeps his discovery a secret, but the truth comes out when he falls ill from the blight. Only the Armor of Light can save him.

Throughout the Lightglider Origins series, readers will learn that the True Light is always present, guiding our way.

Derek Holser, MEd, MTh, JD, is an author, educator, and attorney. He and his wife, Leah, and their three teenage children live in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Zach Fay, MDiv, MBA, is the creator of Lightgliders, a virtual world of Christian faith, games, and community for kids. He and his wife, Margaret, live with their four young children in St. Louis, Missouri. He is inspired by the intersection of faith, reason, and imagination.

George Ermos is an illustrator, maker, and avid reader from England. He works digitally and loves illustrating all things curious and mysterious. He is always trying to incorporate new artiness from the various world cultures he reads about and explores.

“More than an adventure, Kwan’s story is a journey from secret-keeping to surrender, learning that hidden secrets corrode while the Light restores. Derek Holser and Zach Fay have crafted something rare: a thrilling, faith-anchored story that gives families a hero who wins by realizing, “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30).

Bo Harris, Pastor; YouTuber, Bo Knows Gaming

“As our world grasps for meaning, the baptized imaginations of Derek Holser and Zach Fay’s Lightglider Origins series beautifully illustrates why the redemptive Christian narrative appeals to every generation. For children and adults drawn to the grand narratives of Tolkien and Lewis, Kwan’s story, though set in Seoul thirty years from now, orients us again to faith, hope, and love, as well as a trust that the future is filled with promise!”

Michael V. Di Fuccia, Director of Research and Communications, Martin Institute for Christianity & Culture

“Kwan and the Armor of Light is an uplifting book about finding faith and courage when challenges arise. As a Christian parent, it’s extremely important to have my children engaged in positive, faith-filled media of all kinds. The values behind the Lightgliders Origin book series checks all of these boxes. We are so grateful for Lightgliders!”

Kate Shu, The Middle TN Mamma; homeschool mom; content creator

“Kwan and the Armor of Light had our whole family (ages 11–63) on the edge of our seats! As a homeschool teacher and Christian mom, I cherish the profound life lessons on integrity, courage, honesty, and teamwork in this book. Like the Lightgliders online game, this epic adventure series nurtures faith, values, and character, which brings out the VERY BEST in our kids!”

Tiffany Sharrar, Homeschool Teacher; mom

“This is the kind of book young people need to read. It expertly invites readers to join Kwan as he confronts—sometimes the hard way—questions of identity, ambition, and purpose. It is a story of exceptional talent, self-discovery, and redemptive grace.”

Tim Spiker, President, The Aperio; leadership advisor; author of The Only Leaders Worth* Following

“This world is starved for light in the darkness, and Kwan and the Armor of Light delivers once again for the Lightglider Origins series. These are rare books that combine deep truths, engaging characters, and culturally relevant themes that draw in both me and my thirteen-year-old daughter. As usual, this book is a gift to enjoy together.”

Daniel Alexander, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Perkins Ventures

“No one has yet captured the imaginative possibilities of Madeleine L'Engle's Time Cycle, yet Holser and Fay have created an entirely new world that echoes with the wonder of A Wrinkle in Time. In the Lightglider Origins series, the world of Glideon blazes bright with the contrast of light and darkness. The Gliddles, native to the land, are under threat as blight saps their homeland’s vitality and brutal machines advance under a dark master, Kwan’s genius mind must weigh evidence on the moral plane as much as the scientific. To walk with Kwan, Tambika, Bryce, and the other Lightgliders is to grow in wisdom.”

Brenton Dickieson, Assistant Professor of Arts, UPEI; blogger, www.apilgriminnarnia.com

“Kwan and the Armor of Light is an adventure that awakens the imagination and carries genuine spiritual depth. The vivid characters and compelling plot show us how the light heals wounds and models friendship that makes room for honesty. This story of hope invites readers to keep building bridges, even toward those who have lost their way.”

About the book:
The third book in the Middle Grade Lightglider Origins series, this story follows the adventures of Kwan Jeong, a brilliant boy living in a futuristic Korea in 2057. In this new, united Korea, Kwan is the son of the Chief Technological Integration Minister, and he’s developed a groundbreaking compound that promises to shape the country’s future. But when he uncovers that his compound might be toxic, he's faced with choosing between professional success and damaging the environment and his beloved home.

Kwan is swept into the world of the Lightgliders, where he takes on an adventurous mission and learns about the danger of keeping secrets and the importance of humility.

My thoughts:
Kwan is my favorite character in the series, so it was fun to follow his growth as he grapples with these heavy choices and learns the importance of being honest and putting his faith in Jesus. This book is packed with adventure and amazing faith themes!

Whether your kids are already fans of the Lightglider virtual world, an online Christian community for kids, or they are just diving into the story for the first time, this series is both fun, engaging, and faith-filled!
